History
A HISTORY OF THE FLORIDA THOROUGHBRED REGION OF PCA, ESTABLISHED IN 2015
A small group of Porsche owners met at the dealership, Porsche of Ocala, in late 2014. From that humble beginning the group, with the assist of the dealership, formed a Porsche owners club.
Searching for a name, since Ocala is noted as the “Horse Capital of the World”, the group chose the name – The Florida Thoroughbred Region. PCA accepted the charter and declared “The Florida Thoroughbred Region of PCA” (FTR) as an official Region in June of 2015, the 145th Region of PCA and the 10th Region in Zone 12.
To form FTR, PCA carved out 4 counties (Marion, Citrus, Levy, and Sumter) from two other Regions so existing and future members would not have far do drive to gather for fun events.
Starting with 37 charter members, FTR grew quickly winning “Factored Growth” awards in both 2018 (251members) and 2019 (441 members). In 2024, FTR has reached a membership of 626 members (primary and affiliate members).
In its nine years, FTR has grown to conduct many events for the enjoyment of its members. Some examples: Monthly drive and dines, monthly social evenings, annual HPDE events, new member recognition “parties”, and an Annual Meeting at a local country club with music, good food, and many prizes awarded to attendees. Once a year FTR combines with the “Citrus Region” to jointly enjoy a fun day of Polo with the Ocala Polo Club in keeping with the “Horse Capital” theme.
FTR continues to grow in membership and added events for the enjoyment of Porsche owners in Central Florida!
